acla:works, Trinidad.

acla:works Trinidad offers innovative architecture and interior design for discerning clients. All of our projects begin with the establishment of a dialogue with our clients, out of which design strategies evolve. Major projects benefit from our collective expertise through regular design reviews, which ensure that client expectations are met.

We have expanded to match the demand of new design challenges and now incorporate sustainable design, building and information modeling [BIM] and integrated project delivery [IPD] expertise gained through exposure to international contemporary architectural and planning practice.

The value we bring to building procurement is realized through a sensitive yet sophisticated approach to the aesthetic and functional aspects of design, as well as the technical, financial and contractual management of construction.

Foundation:

By building on the following principles, acla:works aims to be the prominent architecture firm in the Caribbean by 2020 in terms of image, perception, service level and delivery.

History:

Although we’ve been designing for 67 years, we’ve only been known as acla:works since the 2001 merger of three architectural practices. One of these practices, Anthony C. Lewis Associates [est. 1944], was at the time the largest and most established architectural firm in the Caribbean, and the first in Trinidad and Tobago to be set up by a native architect.

Anthony Clyde Lewis [1918 – 2008] was a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects and a graduate of MIT and the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he studied under architect Mies van der Rohe. The firm was carried on by his son, Brian Lewis, along with business partners Louis Ottley and the late Ruskin Punch, up until 2001. Today, the firm’s directors are Brian Lewis, Gary Turton, and Mandilee Newton.

Our [W] logo was designed by artist Steve Ouditt to symbolize 67 years of architectural experience and the transition of a distinguished name into a collaboration of strength. Today, that collaboration continues to evolve as we aspire towards great architecture through design, experience, innovation, and management—building on our solid foundation while moving forward with cutting edge design, research, and development.
