Knoll Furniture, X3 Chair
Marco Maran 2005
Marco Maran recalled the Bertoia wire collection to design X3, an energetic chair suited to both residential and institutional spaces. An embedded Desmopan® lattice punctuates the striking palette of glowing colors, giving the chair a highly graphic effect — a 21st century riff on the Bertoia classic.
Marco Maran is celebrated for designs that are light in spirit and flexible in application. Trained as an architect and industrial designer, he was voted Best Young Designer at the 1996 Young&Design tradeshow in Milan. Among his notable completed interiors is the Press Room for the 1998 World Cup in Paris, France.
Knoll currently carries two chairs designed by Marco Maran, the Gigi and the X3¬. The Gigi—offered with or without arms, and with a swivel base, traditional legs or as a barstool — features a strikingly profiled polypropylene shell that achieves both strength and flexibility. The X3, an accomplishment in style and technology, uses a shell constructed of clear polycarbonate with an embedded grid, giving the chair an energetic and graphic aesthetic.
